Patience is such an admirable quality. I often feel like I won't do all that I was put on this earth to do unless things start coming to pass a lot quicker. But things take time.
We live in a consumer society. When we shop, we're buying finished products. After all, only the finished products get put on the shelf for consumption. We give little thought to the years of trial and error that went into building what we see before us.
When we read articles about peoples' success, we're usually only reading the highlights. When you see so many people who seem to be “overnight successes”, we deceive ourselves into believing that little effort was required of them.
We can't lose heart if things are not happening as quickly as we would like. Don't be discouraged if you're overwhelmed with how much farther you have to go in order to become who you think you should be. There are a lot factors that go into what makes the right time, the right time. Some of those factors are things that we can't control or understand.
It's also good to keep in mind that years of seemingly fruitless preparation can bear an abundant harvest very quickly. Our lives aren't line graphs that gradually move upward at a steady pace. Understanding that life's journey follows a path with sharp peaks and dips and plateaus, helps us to keep the right perspective as we move forward. We can't let the terrain or the pace deter us.
Our focus shouldn't be on how fast we get there, but on how consistent we are to take steps--however small--in the right direction. Have patience. We will get there.
