The less we feel entitled, the more we can appreciate the people and things in our lives.  The love and friendship that we experience are blessings that we don't necessarily deserve, but have the privilege of enjoying.

The gap between our expectations of people and the reality of their behavior is often what creates frustration, disappointment or disillusionment.  No one has to love us or respect us--so we should be thankful when they do.  It's not that we shouldn't have expectations, but we would be wise to understand that God and the people of this planet are not obligated to adhere to those expectations.

Be grateful for what you have and don't take life for granted by assuming that you'll be treated a certain way or that things will unfold the way you would like.  Be grateful.
